Spartans Slip Past Saint Leo

TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Women's soccer team could not counteract a second-half score from the University of Tampa as the Lions fell to the Spartans 2-1 Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium.

Saint Leo (6-4-2, 2-4-1 SSC) recorded 11 shots on the night, while Tampa (5-5-2, 1-2-2 SSC) tallied 13.  Senior Forward Alex Collighan led the Lions with three shots, as Graduate Goalkeeper Maitane Bravo made two saves on the night.

While the Spartans struck first, the Green & Gold had a quick response in the 31st minute, as Graduate Midfielder Raylyn Straubmuller equalized the match 1-1 with her first goal of the season, as both teams headed into intermission deadlocked.

Tampa would boot in the game-winning goal in the 67th minute, as the Lions were unable to respond.

Saint Leo will look to bounce back Saturday, as the team travels to Fort Lauderdale to face Nova Southeastern.  Kickoff against the Sharks is scheduled for 6 p.m.
