FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Women's soccer team dropped another heartbreaking setback Saturday night, as the Lions fell 4-1 to RV Nova Southeastern at NSU Soccer Complex.
While the Lions (6-5-2, 2-5-1 SSC) had 11 shots in the contest, the team could only put two on net. Senior Forward
Alexia Spencer recorded five shots on the night, landing one on target.
The contest was deadlocked for nearly 42 minutes before NSU (7-1-3, 5-1-2 SSC) slotted a shot to take a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
It was not long before the Sharks extended their lead 2-0 in the 50th minute. The Lions caught a break when Nova Southeastern's Jaida Scott fouled in the Keeper's box and received a yellow card, making way for the Green & Gold's lone score of the match from a good penalty kick by Senior
Nina Mueller that cut the deficit 2-1.
Before the Lions could put together the equalizing goal, the Sharks responded with two late goals that solidified the team's 4-1 win.
Now sitting just one point outside the conference tournament, Saint Leo will return home to host Florida Tech Saturday for the team's Senior night. Kickoff at Saint Leo University Soccer Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
