Lions Fall to #23 Eagles in Daytona Beach

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team fell 84-65 to Embry-Riddle, who is ranked 23rd in the county by the latest D2SIDA poll. The Sunshine State Conference decision inside the ICI Center moved the Lions' overall record to 8-10, 5-8 in the SSC. Meanwhile, the Eagles improved to a 16-5 season mark, 9-3 in the league.
 
Jared Coomer led the offensive efforts with 22 points. The sophomore guard went 6-for-12 from the floor, 2-for-4 from the three-point range and went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe. Two other Lions joined Coomer in scoring double figures: Frank Webb Jr. and Francis Sio with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Cantia Rahming led the Green and Gold off the window with eight rebounds.
 
The Eagles grabbed the lead at the half but the Lions kept them within single digits at 33-25. Saint Leo dished out a six-point run in the 17th minute off a Rahming layup and one followed by a thrilling three-pointer by Jared Coomer. The quick run slashed the gap to two points, 40-38. Despite the efforts, Embry-Riddle answered and added to the Lions' attack. The Eagles strung together an 11-0 run to reach a 22-point lead, 84-62 with less than a minute remaining. The Green and Gold added three more points at the line for the 84-65 final.
 
Saint Leo will regroup and get back on the hardwood on Wednesday, Feb 2 at Palm Beach Atlantic. The Lions and Sailfish are set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
