SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Eckerd Wednesday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. The event featured a high shot count, eight saves by
Maitane Bravo, and most importantly a night informing all about our part in helping fight Leukemia. Saint Leo University partnered with 'Be The Match' who had a booth set up for all in attendance to see if they were a match for a bone marrow transplant recipient, in honor of alumna Jasmine Johnson.
Saint Leo (1-7-1, 0-3 SSC) and Eckerd (4-2-1, 2-1 SSC) went into overtime for the second time this season. The programs first met in a non-conference season opener in St. Petersburg, which they drew 1-1. In the second meeting, the Tritons and Lions battled for 106 minutes with both sides taking their turn electrifying the packed house.
Laura Hallissey paced the Green and Gold's offense with two shots on frame. She was followed by
Nina Mueller,
Gabi Moore, and
Caitlin Strong who each took a turn at challenging Eckerd's goalkeeper.
Saint Leo put together 11 shots, five on frame while Eckerd tallied 17 with nine on frame. Both teams were awarded five corner kicks. Redshirt Senior,
Maitane Bravo, recorded eight saves for a season tally of 41 after seven appearances.
In the 106
th minute, Tariah Miller broke through the Lions' backline on the left side of the field and found the bottom right corner of the net.

The Lions will enjoy a weekend off from competition before hitting the road on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Saint Leo will return to action against the Tars of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
