Mueller’s First Career Goal Not Enough to Reel in Sailfish

Sep 25, 2021

Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla.Nina Mueller converted a penalty kick slinging it to the back of the net to tally her first goal in the Green and Gold. The junior midfielder's historic day wasn't quite enough to reel in the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Saturday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. The Sailfish escaped the Lions in a 2-1 Sunshine State Conference final.

Palm Beach Atlantic (5-1, 2-0 SSC) extended its win streak to four with the first goal of the night in the 32nd minute followed by the eventual go-ahead goal in the 59th minute.

Despite being down by two, Saint Leo (1-6-1, 0-2 SSC) fired off five shots in the second half to force two saves by the Sailfish goalkeeper.

Lions' goalkeeper, Maitane Bravo, continued to lead the backline with four saves, bringing her career count to 33 in just six appearances.

Saint Leo will turn its' attention to Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. to host the Tritons of Eckerd College. The teams last meet in the season opener on a stormy evening in St. Petersburg where the teams drew, 1-1.

In addition to the game, Saint Leo will be hosting a very special event. The Saint Leo women's soccer program along with their alumnae will be hosting a Leukemia Awareness Night in honor of Saint Leo alumna Jasmine Johnson who fought to bring awareness to the cause throughout her lifetime. The team is partnering with Be The Match® and will have a booth set-up for those in attendance to get swabbed to test to see if they are a match for a potential bone marrow transplant recipient.
