SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo fell 3-0 in a non-conference match up with the seventh-ranked University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) Mountain Lions Friday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field.
Saint Leo (1-3-1) took five shots led by
Nina Mueller with two. She was helped by teammates
Kennedy Messina,
Arielle Jacus, and
Paula Martinez Miranda with a shot apiece.
UCCS (5-1) tallied 11 shots, forcing three stellar saves by redshirt senior goalkeeper, Bravo Maitane. The Mountain Lions found the back of the net early to jump ahead 1-0 in the fourth minute. Saint Leo gained composure and fought off the visitors for the remainder of the half.
UCCS added to their lead in the 61
st minute coming off an unassisted left-footed goal by Tori Maydew. Later, in the 86
th minute, the Mountain Lions converted a corner as Jadyn LeDoux netted her second of the night.
The Green and Gold return to action on Sunday, September 19 in the team's Sunshine State Conference opener. Saint Leo will travel to Embry-Riddle for kickoff set at 7:00 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Florida.
