Martinez Nets First Goal of the Season, Saint Leo Defeats Texas A&M International Sunday

Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – Sweet Victory. The first win of the season for Saint Leo women's soccer came off the boot of Paula Martinez Miranda in the 84' to defeat Texas A&M International at Saint Leo Soccer Field.
 
The win pulls the Lions to a 1-2-1 record where Miranda is the third different player to score a goal on the season tied with Alyssa Abernot and Bella Arato; all three players sitting at two points on the season.
 
It was the second straight full game for Maitane Bravo in goal for the Green and Gold where she moves to 1-1-0 on the season with 11 total saves in 180:00 of action.
 
Both sides of the ball were even through the entire contest with the Lions edging the Dustdevils 10-9 in shots and 6-5 in shots on goal. The difference, the 84' goal by Paula Martinez Miranda who got back-to-back shots at the top of the eighteen off a corner set. The Barcelona, Spain midfielder found the ball dropping to her at the top of the eighteen off a corner taken by Nina Mueller, where she got to rip off two consecutive shots, the latter finding the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.
 
Bravo had a fantastic day protecting the Lions net with five saves in the full 90-minutes where the Dustdevils were driving down the left side and Texas A&M International's Sierra Clarke ripped a shot towards the back post and Bravo got two hands to it before falling on it in the 72'. The Dustdevils would take another crack four minutes later where Bravo again was in the position to make a save but the ball was played over the crossbar.
 
Laura Hallissey and Paula Martinez Miranda paced the Green and Gold offense in shots, with two a piece, where six others tallied one shot, in Nina Mueller, Raylyn Straubmuller, Jill Sutherland, Caitlin Strong, Kaylee Couder, and Arielle Jacus.
 
Texas A&M International was led by Valeria Macias with three shots on the game where keeper Fabiana Solano tallied five saves in the full 90-minutes of play.

The Lions continue action at the Saint Leo Soccer Field on Friday, Sept. 17. Saint Leo is set to host the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions under the lights starting at 7 p.m.
