Saint Leo Men’s Soccer is Back!

Aug 26, 2021

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Coach Brett Parker returns to the Saint Leo sidelines for his third season with the Lions, second year ahead of a full NCAA Division II schedule. He and his second season assistant coach, Nick Sakiewicz will direct a 34-man roster, who are preparing for a 17-game regular season.

The Lions prepare to face three United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Preseason programs in the form of Sunshine Conference foes No. 2 Lynn and No. 13 Palm Beach Atlantic, and non-conference Florida Institution, No. 18 West Florida.

Mauro Diaz returns as the Green and Gold's leading goal scorer. The Uruguay product netted a pair of goals and tallied two assists during the 2019 season, his freshman campaign. Fellow sophomores, Federico Tellechea and Peter Holt, also return to the pitch after earning starting time as freshman. Tellechea earned 16 games starts in which he recorded a goal and an assist.

On the backline, the Green and Gold looks to senior defender Noah Nixon and junior Karl Nyman. The veterans are joined by freshman Harrison Taylor standing at 6'7. Four goalkeepers will take care of the responsibilities in between the posts in graduate student Riccardo Zarri, sophomore Joao Kozlowski, freshman Jackson Eckley, and freshman Gannon Key.

The Lions will kickoff the season on Friday, September 3 hosting the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks. The season home opener will mark a historic date as the programs first men's soccer matchup.
