MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team fell 6-1 at second-ranked Barry on Friday. The decision moved the Green and Gold's record to 4-2, 4-2 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

Nina Furmaniak stepped off the bus ready to give the Buccaneers a hard time. Furmaniak and Takhmina Zhanatova forced the seven-point tiebreaker but their second flight opponents prevailed; 7-6 (7-5). The Bucs went on to sweep doubles for the first point.

Furmaniak continued her work in singles at the third flight against #5 Jil Engelmann. The junior from Swidnik, Poland upset her opponent taking the first set in a quick 6-2 decision. She finished her work in the second set, 6-4.

Marta Vicens Miquel and Lavinia Lancellotti battled into a three-set decision at flights two and four, respectively. Despite efforts, Vicens Miquel fell 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 while Lancellotti took a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 loss.
 
Barry remains undefeated following the 6-1 match final.

Saint Leo University Athletics is keeping our student-athletes healthy and safe by following a number of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes having student-athletes tested or screened on a regular basis, traveling in smaller groups, holding competitions without fans in attendance, avoiding overnight trips, and wearing masks when not competing. These safety standards meet those set by the NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference President's Council. At Saint Leo University, the COVID-19 Incident Command Team also reviews the teams' safety protocol and monitors adherence on a regular basis.
