Lions Ledger: Women's Basketball returns to the road, Men's Golf Looks Ahead to Matlock Invitational

  • RECORDS: Saint Leo 1-1 | Florida Tech 2-2
  • Saint Leo took its first loss of the season in an overtime decision on the road at Barry Wednesday. Tori Lesko earned a double-double with 18 points and game-high 12 rebounds. Lesko went 7-11 from the floor and 4-6 at the free-throw line. Alex Button also had a stellar offensive night, earning a game-high 22 points. The junior shooter went 9-16 from the hardwood and added six boards. Alani Gallagher rounded off the trio of double-digit scores, putting up 15 points and also added six rebounds.
  • On the season, Lesko, a graduate student transfer, paces the offense with 15 points per game (PPG). Lesko is shooting a 55.6-percent (10-for-18) from the floor. On the charity stripe, she has hit 76.9-percent (10-for-13) of her shots. Off the boards, she leads the team with nine rebounds per game (RPG).
  • Lesko is far from being the only offensive threat. Four more Lions are dangerous shooters: Alex Button (14.5 PPG), Alani Gallagher (12.5 PPG), Kiki McIntyre (11.0 PPG), and Casey O'Shaughnessy (10.0 PPG).
  • As a team, Saint Leo averages 79 PPG, shooting a 38.1-percent from the field, 27.6-percent from the three-point range, and 71.1-percent at the free throw line. Off the iron, the Green and Gold average 51 RPG.
  • Florida Tech returns to the hardwood after seven postponed games. The last time the Panthers were in action was on Saturday, Feb. 13 when Florida Tech topped Barry, 76-66, fulled by a second half surge.
  • Five Crimson and Gray members registered double-digit points with Lina Stranger-Johannessen's 18 points being the team's high mark. Strange-Johannessen and Fanny Hakanson grabbed the game-high in rebounds at eight while Hakanson led the game with seven assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Hakanson and Severine Uggen were menaces as each tallied three steals.
  • On the season, Uggen leads the Panthers' offense averaging 11.5 PPG supported by Zoe Murphy with 10.8 PPG, and Fanny Paulin with 10.3 PPG. Hakanson leads the team in rebounds with 7.5 RPG.
  • Florida Tech enters the game averaging 59.25 PPG, shooting a 33.1-percent, 26.6-percent from downtown, and 69.4-percent at the charity stripe. Off the window, the team averages 39.8 RPG.
  • History: Last year, Saint Leo swept Florida Tech defending the Marion Bowman Activities Center in an 82-67 decision followed by a 66-60 road win. In fact, Saint Leo hasn't surrendered a game to Florida Tech since January 10, 2018, when the Panthers cruised past the Lions, 85-52.
  • No. 5 Saint Leo travels Lakeland, Fla. to participate in the Matlock Invitational after taking second place at the season opener, Saint Leo Invitational. The Lions carded a 26-under as a collective group and chased down frontrunner Lynn, who moved to No. 2 in the nation in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
  • The Lions saw Oliver Lilliedahl paced the team with a second place finish at 205 (-11). Jake Nash and Colin Kresl finished inside the top-15 of the field with Nash in seventh at 210 (-6), and Kresl in 13th at 212 (-4). Dave Longhini turned in an even-par 216 tournament score for a 34th place finish while Adrian Soriano rounded out the starting-five with a 50th place finish, 220 (+4).
  • Saint Leo climbed in the recent Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll as well as the GolfStat team rankings to fifth place. In the Bushnell Golfweek poll, the Lions went from 17th in the nation to fifth while in the GolfStat, they enter the rankings after their first tournament.
