WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Saint Leo senior,
Rusty Moorer tied his career-high, 28 points, in route to leading the Lions to a 99-75 road victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Saturday afternoon. Saint Leo improved to 3-1 while Palm Beach Atlantic fell to 2-2.
Â
"Big time win against a good conference opponent on the road." Head Coach
Lance Randall expressed. "We survived the first-half foul trouble to a couple key guys, due to an unbelievable offensive performance from Rusty."
Â
Randall continued, "Erik and Luke gave us good minutes defensively off the bench. Frank and Jared were big in the second half after sitting most of the first. Gintaras hit some huge shots and really played well. He weighed heavily on Largey in the second, which was a deciding factor in stretching that lead. It was a great team win on the road and I can't say enough about the competitiveness and the will to win for this group and how we keep getting better every game. I am proud of them."
Â
Rusty Moorer started the night off red-hot going a perfect 9-for-9 from the field including a 7-for-7 from downtown. Four other Lions would score double-figures with Gintaras Bartasks scoring 19,
Jared Coomer 14,
Frank Webb Jr. 11, and
Cantia Rahming 10.
Palm Beach Atlantic took control of the game early but a
Jared Coomer three gave the Green and Gold a 15-13 lead. Quick flip back and forth in the lead before Saint Leo regained the lead 20-16 on a
Gintaras Bartaskas three-pointer. The Lions used a massive run to take a 20-point lead, 41-21, on a 21-5 run capped by a
Grant Disken three. Saint Leo would close the half leading by double-digits for a 57-40 halftime advantage.Â
The Lions would hold onto a double-digit lead until the 12:31 mark when the Sailfish cut it to nine, 69-60.
Jared Coomer's three and free throw made the contest 73-60, as the Green and Gold never allowed the Salifish within 10 after that. Bartaskas would nail a three to give the Lions their largest lead of the game, 96-67. Saint Leo would cruise to the road victory as
Anastasis Spyroglou ended the games scoring with two free throws.Â
