Lions Eclipse 100 Points in Win Over the Tigers

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo men's basketball played their third game in five days and came away with a big 107-67 regional win over Savannah State inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center Tuesday night.

The Lions posted 100-plus points for the first time since January 2020 when the Green and Gold last scored 103 points on the road and 105 points in an upset win over then-no. 19 Barry, 105-86, at home. Saint Leo improves to 2-1 on the year while Savannah State drops to 0-1.

Saint Leo saw 11 of 12 players score in front of the 640 attendees where Francis Sio paced the team with 22 points in 21:40 of action. The junior guard from Charlotte, N.C. went 6-of-9 from the field including a 5-for-6 night from downtown and a 5-for-6 night from the free-throw line. Wade Coomer tallied 14 points off the bench for the Green and Gold while Rob Fry II and Luke Haasl each chipped in with 12 and Jared Coomer at 10. Frank Webb Jr. fell just shy of double-digit points, and nearly another triple-double with 12 boards and seven assists.

Savannah State, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), saw two players score 20-plus points with Trey DeLoach right at 20 and Marcus Scott leading the team with 21. The Tigers' Daryl Richardson scored 11 points off the bench.

After a tight, one-possession game for the first 13 minutes of action, Saint Leo ripped out of the cage and went on a 23-4 run to close the half ahead by 23, 49-26. The Lions would come out of the break and build-out to a 45-point, 84-39, lead with 10:12 to play. The Green and Gold would use five unanswered points in the final minute to bring the game to its close, 107-67.
