Martinez Miranda Does It Again! Lions Upset Buccaneers in Overtime Thriller at Home

SAINT LEO, Fla.Paula Martinez Miranda scored her second game-winner to lift Saint Leo over Barry, 2-1 in double overtime comeback Saturday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. The electric 109-minute thriller answered Barry's early second-half goal with an equalizer by Nina Mueller, assisted by Martinez Miranda in the 74th minute, followed by Martinez Miranda's golden goal to claim the victory.

Saint Leo (2-8-1, 1-4 SSC) put together a diverse offense surge to upset the Sunshine State Conference foes from Miami Shores, Fla. Nina Mueller, Laura Hallissey, Evelina Rosendahl, and Paula Martinez Miranda each took three shots in the Lions' collective 18.

Barry (4-5-1, 1-3-1 SSC) recorded the first goal of the night in the 58th minute. Tash Hudson converted a long serve by Emma Lillback off a set piece for the early lead. The Buccaneers would tally a total of 20 shots forcing five saves by the Lions' goalkeeper, Maitane Bravo.

15 minutes later, on the other side of the field, Martinez Miranda dished out a strong low pass off a free-kick, placed perfectly for the junior midfielder, Nina Mueller, to put it away.

The battle continued with both teams creating chances to claim the win. Evelina Rosendahl for herself with the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and with just enough space to get a shot off. Rosendahl forced a diving save by the Bucs' goalkeeper. The ball, although, forced away from the bottom right corner of the Bucs' net, was loose inside the six-yard box. Martinez Miranda acted quickly and with one swift strike found the opposite side of the net to record the 2-1 comeback.

After a short mid-week bye, the Lions will look to keep their momentum going on the road at Florida Tech on Saturday, October 16. The Lions and Panthers are set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
