SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team came up short in a 2-1 against Nova Southeastern Saturday night during the Lions' senior night. Before the opening kickoff, Saint Leo honored and thanked its seven seniors:
Vionna Konica,
Kennedy Messina,
Mattea Ntacyo,
Evelina Rosendahl,
Delaney Lynch,
Caitlin Strong, and
Alyssa Abernot.
The celebratory night started off with a bang as
Nina Mueller converted a penalty kick in the team's fastest goal of the season. The ninth-minute strike marked the German midfielder's third goal of her junior campaign. Despite the early start, Saint Leo (2-10-2, 1-6-1 SSC) was answered by Nova Southeastern (7-5-1, 5-3 SSC) with back-to-back attacks in the 119
th minute.
Maitane Bravo earned a magnificent penalty kick save, in which the Spanish goalkeeper dove to her right and finished the play with a second chance stop at the near post. Her work kept the game within reach, but the Lions wouldn't be able to find the back of Nova Southeastern's net again.
Bravo wrapped up the night with three saves in 45 minutes of work, following
Alyssa Abernot's pair of saves in the first half.
Saint Leo will finish up the regular season on the road. The Green and Gold's first trip is scheduled to Boca Raton to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
