WINTER PARK, Fla.- After dropping game one of the doubleheader Saturday, No. 15 Saint Leo bounced back and won the rubber match to take the Sunshine State Conference series over No. 3 Rollins 2-1 at the Rollins Softball Stadium at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.
Alexis Miniet and
Sarah Pauscher led the Green and Gold on the day each recording two hits. Miniet,
Amanda James, and
Makensey Pankers all notched an extra-base knock on the day with a double each. Five other Saint Leo hitters earned a hit on the day, including a pinch-hit single by
Bayley Williams.
Madi Mott struck out seven Tars in six innings in the game one loss.
Kayla Betts earned a complete game shutout win in game two where the freshman notch six strikeouts allowing just five hits.

In the first game, the Tars scored runs in the second, third, and fifth innings to secure a 4-1 win. Saint Leo was only able to muster two hits in the loss.
In game two, Saint Leo opened up the scoring in the fourth as
Makensey Pankers doubled to center field to bring in
Bayley Williams.
Alli Jaquith laced a single to center which scored
Kayleice Hooks as the Green and Gold went up 2-0 in the top of the sixth.
Amanda James would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh as her double brought home Miniet.
The Lions got a pitching gem from
Kayla Betts as the freshman only allowed five hits while striking out six tars on the day. The Leesburg native now leads the team with an impressive 0.56 ERA.
Up Next
The Lions will have a couple of days off before hosting Minnesota Duluth for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 10 with the first pitch at noon. Following the non-conference tilt, Saint Leo will host Bloomsburg Wednesday, March 11 for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
