Palermo Lifts #18 Saint Leo Over Seton Hill

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo, ranked 18th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, found themselves down by three goals to Seton Hill with 14 minutes remaining on the clock. The Green and Gold put together a four-goal run to claim the dramatic 12-11 comeback. The come from behind victory came off Tara Palermo's stick in the last final minute of regulation.
 
Saint Leo (3-2) was paced by Ashlee Wilsynski with five points-scoring five goals followed by Palermo with a hat-trick. Ashley Salvett dominated off the draw with a game-high nine draw controls. She also toed-the-line for the defense, causing two turnovers and picking up a game-high eight ground balls. Between the pipes, Emma Crafton started, recording four saves in 30 minutes of work. Rachel Smythe wrapped up the goaltending responsibilities registering a save.

Seton Hill jumped to a 2-0 lead over Saint Leo. The startling start by the visitors fueled a four-goal run by the Green and Gold, 4-2 at 6:48. The teams exchanged a pair of goals each for a halftime score of 6-4 in favor of the Lions.
 
After another Wilsynski goal to start the second half, the Griffins broke out five unanswered goals. The rally claimed the lead for the visitors, 9-7, at 22:14. The comeback did not come easily. Seton Hill widened the gap to three by the 14th minute, 11-8. The Lions' work at the draw became crucial to earn possessions. In the Green and Gold's game-winning four goal run, Wilsynski scored twice, Antonella Mikolyuk netted one, and Palermo found the back of the net and team celebration to follow.
 
Up Next
The Lions will take over a week off from competitions to prepare for their final three non-conference games before opening play in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo will return to action on Friday, March 13 at 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Tenn. The Lions will be hosted by Lee before traveling to Young Harris.
