SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 2019-2020 Saint Leo women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season as the fourth-seed among the Sunshine State Conference with an overall record of 14-14, 10-10 in the SSC. The top-tier finish is the Lions first season earning hosting rights to the SSC Championships. Saint Leo is slated to host fifth-seed Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
No. 4 Saint Leo and No. 5 Nova Southeastern split the regular season series. Each team returned the favor of winning on the other team's court. On Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, the Sharks topped the Lions in a tight 70-67 in the Bowman Center. Saint Leo clawed out of an eight-point deficit with 10 minutes left in the game to tie it up at 67-67. The Sharks stole the ball from the Green and Gold, put in a good layup and free throw, with less than a second to spare to take the game. Saint Leo answered Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Lions upset the Sharks, who were sitting in the top-half of the conference standings; 82-72. The statement road victory was the Green and Gold's fourth time as a program winning at Nova Southeastern.
Alani Gallagher dominated down low earning a double-double with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Ulrich,
Casey O'Shaughnessy,
Gina Brierley, and
Alex Button also added double-digit points.
Every game of Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Championship, which is presented by Jimmy John's, will be broadcasted at the host campus sites on the
SSC Digital Network.
Live stats will also be available. Tampa clinched the top spot, followed by Eckerd as the no. 2, Florida Southern (no. 3), and Saint Leo (no. 4) who will all be hosting their respective games in the opening round.
