MELBOURNE, Fla. – No. 25 Saint Leo softball opened up play at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Melbourne with a 2-0 mark after wins against West Alabama and West Georgia showcased the first day of the Florida Tech Invitational.

No. 25 Saint Leo pushed its record to 6-0 after a 2-1 win over West Alabama and a 5-2 win over West Georgia.

Kacie Kelly led the charge on the day going 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored, finishing just a single shy of the daily cycle. In the first game of the day, the senior recorded her triple and tacked on a solo home run, the first home run of her career, and double came in game two. Kelly finished the night with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Her final slash line against the Tigers and Wolves was .600/.750/.1.800.

All 10 batters that stepped to the plate made an appearance on base either via a hit or a walk.
Taylor McCray and
Alexis Miniet each notched two hits behind Kelly's three.
Kelly and
Sarah Pauscher were each credited with two RBI while
Amanda James,
Maddy Lynn, and McCray each picked up one RBI.Â

In the circle,
Madi Mott and
Sadi Avants got the nod for the starts and each completed the win with six strikeouts apiece.
Kayla Betts and
Rachel Bean made an appearance for the Green and Gold, as Betts earned the save for the Lions Friday night.

The Tigers got on the board first in the second inning with a solo home run to left field before three complete scoreless innings.

Maddy Lynn tripled down the right-field line scoring James as the go-ahead run.

Saint Leo would handle West Alabama but would allow a runner to reach in the final two innings before closing out the game with a ground out.

In the win over West Georgia, momentum carried over for the Green and Gold as the first batter of the game,
Kacie Kelly, took the fourth pitch to deep right field and out of the park hitting the pond past the right-field fence for a quick 1-0 lead. The home run is the first of the senior infielder's career and it proved to jumpstart the Green and Gold's offense.

Saint Leo tacked on three more in the third for a 4-0 lead before gaining a 5-0 lead with one run in the fourth inning. The Wolves charged back with two runs in the fifth inning but the Lions closed the opportunity and game with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
