SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 17 Saint Leo softball opened up the Sunshine State Conference series on the wrong end of a 6-2 decision with Palm Beach Atlantic Friday night at University Softball Stadium.

The Lions scattered six hits on the night and struck first but couldn't hold on as the Sailfish rallied late to win the series opener. On the night, six different players notched a hit for the Lions in
Kacie Kelly,
Emily Pilon,
Bethany Kursch,
Maddy Lynn,
Madi Mott, and
Alli Jaquith. Kursch and
Alexis Miniet were credited with a run scored on the night while Mott picked up an RBI.Â
Mott suffered the loss for the Green and Gold in the circle, tossing the complete game with five strikeouts.Â

The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the second with two runs as
Taylor McCray reached on a muffed catch by the Sailfish allowing Kursch to score. Mott dug into the box and singled to left-center, driving in Miniet.Â
PBA would tie things up with a two-run jack to left field in the fourth and take the lead with a four-run sixth before sealing the 6-2 win over the Lions with a quick bottom of the seventh.Â
