Lions Drop Midweek Contest to Flagler

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team struggled to get the offense rolling Tuesday night as the visiting Saints of Flagler College walked away with an 11-4 victory over the Lions. Senior Brett Esau led the way with a pair of hits including a double, a triple and a team-high three RBI.

The loss drops Saint Leo's 2020 record to 2-11 while the Saints improved to 10-5 this season.

Esau led the Lions going 2-for-4 at the plate. Five other Lions registered one hit including redshirt sophomore Paul Coumoulos who was the only other Lion with an extra base hit as he poked a double down the third base line late in the contest.

The Lions sent seven pitchers to the mound Tuesday but it was redshirt junior Jeremy Peel who earned the start and suffered his first loss of the season. The hurler struck out a pair while allowing six hits and three runs, two earned, over 3.0 innings pitched. The only other Lion pitcher to go more than an inning was freshman Andy Booth who lasted 2.1 innings on the mound with four strikeouts, three hits given up and two runs allowed.

The Saints scored 11 runs on 18 hits and three Saint Leo errors while the Lions converted seven hits and two Flagler errors into four runs. The Saints went up 10-0 before allowing a Saint Leo hit or run which both came in the sixth when the Lions plated two runs and picked up their first two hits of the day.

The Lions will hit the road this weekend for their first Sunshine State Conference road series at Lynn beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Boca Raton.
