TAMPA, Fla. – A fifth run sixth haunted No. 16 Saint Leo in the Sunshine State Conference opener Friday night where the Tampa Spartans rallied to knock off the Lions 6-3.

Maddy Lynn and
Sarah Pauscher paced the Green and Gold on the night going 2-for-3 from the plate where
Amanda James,
Emily Pilon, and
Alli Jaquith each scored a run on the night.

Madi Mott got the nod in the conference opener going four innings with just one run allowed on four hits with six strikeouts.
Sadi Avants came in and went 1.1 innings and suffered the loss before
Kayla Betts came in and closed out the final 0.2 innings.

Back-to-back bases-loaded walks allowed the Green and Gold to take a 2-0 lead before an RBI groundout by
Grace Spitulski pushed it to 3-0 after two innings.Â

The Spartans tacked on one in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1 before five runs in the fifth allowed Tampa to take a 6-3 lead.

The Lions stranded one runner in the top of the seventh but couldn't rally in the top of the final frame. Â
