WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Saint Leo men's basketball drops road Sunshine State Conference matchup inside Rubin Arena Saturday to Palm Beach Atlantic 93-64 behind
Wade Coomer's team-high 19 points.
"PBA is playing some very good basketball right now," head coach
Lance Randall said. "They out worked us which was made evident, clearly by their 17 offensive rebounds. That's the total of 55-percent of all their missed shots, which is unheard of percentage for college basketball. Between that and their transition offense, they absolutley dominated in the paint and they exposed us."
Â
Coomer paced Saint Leo (14-10, 8-8 SSC) with a team-high 19 points, draining five three-pointers while adding one jumper and two free throws on the night.
Kyran McClure chipped in 13 points while
Yalen Reed added 10, along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Isaiah Hill and
Jared Coomer finished just shy of double-figures with nine and seven points, respectively.
Randall continued, "We got some good play from the Coomer brothers (Wade and Jared) and Yalen was effective tonight."
Â
All five starters for Palm Beach Atlantic (18-6, 11-5 SSC) scored in double-digits led by De'Ondre Jackson's 25 points, making 10 baskets on the night.
Â
After capturing a quick lead, the Sailfish led for the entirety of the ball game. The Sailfish would run out to a six-point lead, 14-8 before extending it to 10, 28-18 with nine minutes to play. PBA pushed its lead to 17 points with a 10-3 run before
Wade Coomer hit a jumper right before half, sending the game to its break with PBA up, 45-31.
Â
Kyran McClure would nail a three to open the second half, cutting the score to 11, but the Sailfish doubled up the Green and Gold's rally to run the score to 61-41 with 14:35 to play. Cruising to a victory PBA ran out to its largest lead of 32, 74-42, before reaching its final of 93-64.
