th-ranked Quincy University Hawks took the series over the Saint Leo baseball program with an 11-3 victory Saturday afternoon after splitting the Friday doubleheader. Senior
Jake Vander Wal connected on his third home run over the last two games to score the Lions first tally of the game in the second.

Vander Wal's hit was the lone base knock for the Lions until the seventh when redshirt sophomore
PJ Barry picked up hit number two for the Lions. Saint Leo ended the contest with four hits three of which came in the final three innings. Senior
Brett Esau earned a team-best two RBI as he drove in a pair off a double in the eighth.

The Lions sent seven pitchers to the mound on Saturday with starter
Graeme Cherry suffering the loss, his first of the season. Â

The Hawks scored three run in the opening frame and never looked back. The Lions cut the lead to two in the second but that would be as close as they would get. Quincy scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the seventh and another two in the ninth.

Three Hawks finished with two or more RBI while Quincy as a squad posted 17 hits while scoring 11 runs.

The loss was the seventh for the Lions this season moving their record to 1-7. The Hawks improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Lions continue their home stand this Tuesday as Valdosta State comes to town for a 6 p.m. contest. Â
