Lions Ledger: Basketballs Travel to St. Petersburg Wednesday

  • Saint Leo holds a two-game win streak as the Green and Gold protected the Marion Bowman Activities Center last week against Embry-Riddle (79-66) and Barry (77-68). Alani Gallagher recorded her eighth consecutive game scoring double-digits while averaging 20.5 points per game (ppg). The junior forward has turned in 14 10-plus scoring games this season. Amanda Ulrich has also tallied 14 double-digit performances. The rookie point guard scored 15.5 ppg last week while snagging 14 rebounds, 13 coming off the defensive rim.
  • Ulrich paces the Lions' season offense with 14.9 ppg average followed by Gallagher with 13.5 ppg and Alex Button with 13.2 ppg, respectively. Button has become dangerous with the basketball, shooting a season team-high .497-percent from the floor, boasting a .477-percent from the three-point range.
  • As the seventh seeded among the current Sunshine State Conference (SSC), the Lions average 76.3 ppg with 12.9 assists per game. Their assists to turnover ratio fights 15.2 turnovers per game. Off the window, the Green and Gold pulls down 37.2 rebounds per game (rpg) for a -3.6 rebounding margin.
  • Eckerd looks the defend a three-game winning streak, defeating Embry-Riddle (66-54), Florida Southern (68-56), and Rollins (74-66)./li>
  • Four players average double-digit scoring: Octavia Loll (11.4), Abby Whiteye (11.2), Zoe Richards (11.0), and Mikayla Kuehne (10.7). Richard claims the team's leading rebounding title with 5.9 rpg.
  • Eckerd sits second among the SSC. As a unit, the Tritons average 71.5 ppg, 36 rpg, for a 6.2 rebounding margin. They have earned an average of 15.4 assists per game while committing 19 turnovers per game.
  • HISTORY: Eckerd took the series last year, recording a 75-53 decision in the last meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 in the Bowman Center. Last time in St. Petersburg, Eckerd protected its home courts with a 85-47 final.

  • Saint Leo hits the road after a huge 2-0 week with wins against Embry-Riddle (92-85) and No. 19 Barry (105-86). In the win over the Buccaneers five players scored in double-figures led by Kyran McClure with 27. Isaiah Hill and Wade Coomer added 21 points apiece while Rusty Moorer and Tyler Carter added 11 points each.
  • McClure continues to pace the team in scoring on the year at 20.8 points per game while Hill improves his second place average to 15.2 ppg and Moorer in third at 10.6 ppg.
  • The Green and Gold will carry the league's best scoring defense into the matchup allowing just 70.2 ppg, inside the top-75 in the nation. Saint Leo is ninth in scoring offense at 77.6 ppg.
  • Eckerd hosts the Lions after posting a 1-1 week capped with a 75-65 win at Rollins. In the win over the Tars, four players topped double-figits led by Travis Bianco with 23. Admir Radoncic added 21 while Malcolm Whitlow and Kristiyan Stavrev chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.
  • On the season, Bianco is the leading scorer in 17 games played at 16.5 ppg while Whitlow is second at 15.6. Radoncic rounds out the double-digit scorers with an average of 12.6 ppg.
  • The Tritons are the eighth best scoring offense, averaging just one more point per game than Saint Leo at 78.6 ppg. Eckerd's defense ranks sixth in the SSC at 78.4 ppg.
  • HISTORY: The Tritons hold the 29-11 advantage over the Lions with a 7-3 record over the last 10 meetings. Last year, Eckerd swept the series including a 83-69 win in St. Petersburg.
