BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Saint Leo men's and women's track teams opened the 2020 season Sunday at the Emory Crossplex Showdown in Birmingham, Ala. The Lions picked up nine top-10 finishes including a victory in the men's 5,000m. Freshman
Pierre Galbourdin outpaced the competition to a meet record time of 15:00.58 in the 5K.

TOP PERFORMERS
SAINT LEO MEN:
- Galbourdin led the way with a win in the 5,000m finishing over 11 seconds faster than the second place finisher. He was joined in the top-five by senior Shawn Bell who took fifth with a time of 15:17.27.
- Junior Shane Bracken and senior Blake Watson posted top-10 finishes in the mile. Bracken crossed the line in second after stopping the clock at 4:15.72. Watson finished in sixth after breaking the tape at 4:24.49.
- The men's distance medley relay team consisting of Watson, freshman Fabio Fornarelli, Bell and Bracken took second after combining for a time of 10:28.50.
- The only other top-15 finishers came in the 800m as Fornarelli and freshman Jake LockHart finished in 11th and 12th, respectively. Fornarelli crossed in 2:00.26 while LockHart posted a time of 2:00.47.
SAINT LEO WOMEN:
- Sophomores Paige Patterson and Kathrin Halter led the way for the women as they both finished within the top-three in the 5,000m. Patterson placed second after crossing the line in 18:03.82 while Halter came in one spot back in third at 19:09.00.
- Freshman Sintayehu Vissa and sophomore Aoife Mahony posted top-10 finishes in the mile. Vissa took fourth with a time of 5:10.47 while Mahony placed seventh after stopping the clock in 5:28.12.
- Freshman Robyn Burrows was the only other top-15 finisher as she took 15th in the 400m after rounding the track in 1:03.24.
