Lions Ledger: Lions Welcome Eagles to the Bowman Center Wednesday

  • Saint Leo Saint Leo suffered a 77-74 loss overtime loss at Lynn on Saturday in the Lions' one game week. Saint Leo saw three players score double figures led by Amanda Ulrich's 18 points. Gina Brierley notched a double-double with a team-high 13 rebounds and 16 points while Alani Gallagher tallied 17 points for the Green and Gold.
  • Ulrich's freshman campaign averages 14.9 PPG, shooting a .395-percent from the field. Gallagher's junior campaign has compiled a 12.6 PPG, making .492-percent of her shots. Alex Button also enters the week with a season 12.5 PPG. The sophomore shooter puts in .488-percent of her takes while leading the team from beyond the arch with a .464-percent.
  • The Lions open the week at home averaging 73.1 PPG and 37.7 RPG. The Green and Gold have increased their assists per game to 12.7 and sliced their turnovers per game to 15.8. With a pair of Sunshine State Conference wins from inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center, Saint Leo currently stands ninth in the league's standings.
  • Embry-Riddle led for nearly 30 minutes in its contest against Eckerd on Saturday, but the Tritons used a fourth-quarter surge to top the Eagles 66-54 at the ICI Center. The loss extended the Eagles' losing streak to six games. While battling the Tritons, Sarah Jones scored a game-high 15 points and recorded five rebounds and three steals. Sydney Jones finished with 11 points, four boards and a career-best five steals.
  • Jones paces the offense with 14.8 PPG supported by Nikki Tucker who tallies 12.8 PPG. Tucker leads the Eagles off the window with 8.2 RPG.
  • As a team, the Eagles score 67.9 PPG while pulling down 34.9 RPG. Embry-Riddle has a habit of taking the ball from their opponent with 123 season steals for an average of 8.8 steals per game. Embry-Riddle travels to Saint Leo standing eighth in the SSC standings.
  • HISTORY: The Lions and Eagles last met on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Gina Brierley's season-high 21 points weren't enough as Embry-Riddle captured an 87-63 decision. The game swept the season for the Eagles, as Embry-Riddle protected their home court 72-36 in January of 2019.

  • Saint Leo will start off a two-game homestand with the soaring Eagles of Embry-Riddle after traveling to Boca Raton and knocking off the Fighting Knights 95-80. In the 15-point win, Isaiah Hill paced the team with 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field. Yalen Reed notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Rusty Moorer and Kyran McClure added 17 and 22 points, respectively.
  • Kyran McClure continues to pace the Green and Gold in scoring averaging 20.5 poings per game (ppg). Hill is second on the team in scoring at 14.5 while Moorer is third (10.1) and Reed fourth (8.0).
  • The Lions continue to lead the league in scoring defense holding opponents to 68.1 ppg, which ranks in the top-30 programs in division II while the Green and Gold's offense is 10th in the SSC at 74.9 ppg.
  • Embry-Riddle, who is receiving votes in the latest poll, flies to the Bowman Center after blowing away Eckerd 106-78 Saturday where five players scored in double-digits led by two players with double-doubles in Romeo Crouch (25 points, 10 assists) and Luka Majstorovic (14 points, 10 rebounds).
  • On the year, three players average double-figures with Romeo at the top at 18.1 ppg. Majstrovovic is second at 17.0 ppg and Elijah Jenkins third at 16.2.
  • The Eagles are second in the league and fifth in the nation in scoring offense at 99.1 ppg while ERAU is eighth in the SSC in scoring defense allowing opponents to score 80.2 points.
  • HISTORY: The Lions hold a 7-1 advantage in the series where in the last meeting, Saint Leo came away with a 63-58 win with four players scoring 10-plus points on the night. Kyran McClure led the Green and Gold in scoring with 16 points followed by Rusty Moorer, Yalen Reed, and Ty Forman all at 10 points apiece. The Eagles saw Nashad Mackey drop 23 points in the loss where Alston Jones added 13 points. The Lions average 78.62 points per game in the series while the Eagles are at 77.38.
