Lions Top Fighting Knights Saturday in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saint Leo head men's basketball coach, Lance Randall coached the team to his 200th career division II win after guiding the Lions to a 95-80 final Saturday night against the Lynn Fighting Knights inside the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center in Boca Raton.

"Our defense intensity was at a high level tonight," head coach Lance Randall said after the win. "Lynn is a good offensive team and when we made a mistake, they made us pay."

Saint Leo (10-5, 4-3 SSC) snapped Lynn's (7-6, 3-4 SSC) three-game win streak over the Green and Gold with the win as Isaiah Hill led the team in scoring with 24 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the floor. Hill added seven steals, six rebounds, and five assists on the night.

Kyran McClure added 22 points with Rusty Moorer chipping in 17 while Yalen Reed posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Lions outscored the Fighting Knights 46-28 in the paint and 20-4 in fast break points.

"Kyran gave us a burst in the first half to give us a little separation and Isaiah being in the passing lanes and in transition was a special performance," Randall added. "We did a good job on the glass for the most part and we got good production off our bench on both sides of the ball."

The Lions shot 80.6-percent (25-31) from the free throw line on the night including the final 15 points from the charity stripe. Moorer turned in a career-night from the line going 12-for-12 to lead all efforts for the freebies where McClure added a 9-for-11 night.

The 95 points are the most scored in a game this year for the Green and Gold beating the previous mark of 92 in a loss to Valdosta State.

The Fighting Knights came out of the gate hot running out to a 10-4 lead over the Lions. Saint Leo reversed the deficit with two quick buckets from Isaiah Hill and Rusty Moorer to trail by just two, 10-8, with 16:43 to play. Lynn used another run to sprint out to a 10-point lead, 18-8, but again the Green and Gold cut the deficit to just one with a 14-5 run, 23-22.

A second-chance layup by Hill put Saint Leo in front, 24-23 where the Lions would then extend to an eight-point lead, 31-23 with 6:41 to play. Saint Leo would build its first half lead to 11 twice over the final three minutes, the last time with an Erik Lahm turnaround jumper. The Lions headed into the break leading 39-30.

Re-energized and ready to roll, the Lions came out of the break and went on a 14-0 run to take a 23-point lead, 53-30. The Fighting Knights weren't going to go easy as they erased the deficit with a 16-2 run to cut it to nine points, 55-46. Saint Leo would push its lead back to double-digits quickly and go up by 20, 69-49, with 5:54 to play on a Hill layup.

Saint Leo continued to control the game and remain up by double-digits as the Green and Gold went on for the 95-80 final.
