Lions, Tigers, and a Comeback Win to Keep the Season Perfect

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions remain perfect with a 2-0 record after Sunday's 2-1 comeback win over the West Alabama Tigers. Rebecca Anderson converted a corner kick to net the equalizing goal in the 65th minute. Raylyn Straubmuller sliced the Tiger's defense to find Adriana Tirado who netted the game-winner in the 86th minute.

Saint Leo and West Alabama each took five shots in the first 45 minutes of play despite either being unable to impact the scoreboard. The Tigers jump-started the second stanza with a quick goal in the 50th minute. The Tigers out-shot the Lions 8-5 in the second half but was met by Julia Ortiz, who showcased three spectacular saves. Ortiz faced a total of 13 shots, tallying six saves.

Rebecca Anderson's corner kick sailed into the upper right corner, handing the Green and Gold momentum to carry out the day's work. The Lions clinched the victory with a mere four minutes remaining in regulation. Adriana Tirado hit two shots on her way to earning the game-winner.

The Lions will be on the road for the next four games. Their road trip series begins competing in the Columbus State Tournament next weekend to face Montevallo on Friday, September 13 followed by a meeting with Christian Brothers on Sunday, September 15.
