COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 23 Saint Leo Lions (2-0-1) and the Montevallo Falcons (0-1-2) battled for 110 minutes ending in a draw, 1-1, to open the Columbus State Tournament on Friday.
Rebecca Anderson, the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, found the bottom right corner of the net directly off a corner kick in the 56
th minute. Despite striking first, the Falcons slipped in the equalizing goal in the 80
th minute to force the overtime periods.
The Green and Gold outshot the Falcons wearing White and Purple, 16-12, while also being awarded five corner kicks over Montevallo's three.
On the other side of the field,
Julia Ortiz earned three stops in the double-overtime action.
Saint Leo continues action in the Columbus State Tournament on Sunday, September 15. The Lions will kick off against the Christian Brothers Buccaneers at 10 a.m.
