MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team went 2-0 on the final day of the Barry University Classic Saturday. The Lions defeated a pair of 2018 NCAA Tournament participants and improved to 3-1 on the year.

Saint Leo opened the day with a dominating 3-0 victory over Saint Anselm. The Lions won 25-9, 25-12, 25-11 while hitting .403 as a squad while holding the Hawks to a negative hitting percentage for the entire match including in each individual set.

Senior
Anilise Fitzi led the Lion attack as she was nearly unstoppable on the court picking up 10 kills on just 13 total swings for a .769 hitting percentage. She added a pair of service aces and three blocks to her total. Redshirt junior setter
Anna Garrett dished out 29 assists over the three sets while earning three blocks and five digs.

Fabiola Rosado put down five service aces against the Hawks while digging up five balls.

In the late afternoon affair with American International the Lions dropped the opening set before storming back for three-straight victories to earn the 3-1 win. The Yellow Jackets won the opening set 25-23 before the Lions rattled off 25-20, 25-14 and 25-15 victories over the final three sets.

Three Lions reached double-figures in kills led by senior
Victoria Omoregie and junior
Ashley Quero who each tallied 12 kills in the victory. Omoregie had just two errors while posting a .400 hitting percentage. Quero stood out defensively as well, as she notched her first double-double of the year with 16 digs to go along with her 12 kills.

Fitzi chipped in 10 more kills while hitting at an impressive .444 clip. She also dominated at the net with six total blocks including three solo stuffs. Garrett dished out 41 assists and dug up 13 balls while sophomore libero
Payton Bellano led the team with 17 digs.

Saint Leo will return to action next weekend at the UIndy Invitational. The Lions will face host UIndy, Davenport, Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State over the two day event Sept. 13-14. Â Â Â
