SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions (3-3-1) were unable to surprise the undefeated No. 8 Flagler Saints (5-0) in non-conference action on Wednesday. Despite Saint Leo's ability to outshot Flagler in the first half, the Saints marched away with a 2-0 decision.
Saint Leo took three shots over Flagler's two in the first half. Flagler took back control in the second stanza, outshooting the hosts seven to four for a game tally of nine, edging the Lions' seven attempts.
Carolina Solis-Deleon and
Briana Yamamoto led the Green and Gold's offensive efforts, each taking a pair of shots.
The east coast visitors slipped a goal past
Julia Ortiz in the 19
th minute and scored the go-ahead goal late in the 76
th minute. Ortiz finished her seventh start with three saves, moving her season count to 30.
The Lions return to the road on Saturday, September 28 at Palm Beach Atlantic. The start of the Sunshine State Conference schedule kickoffs at 6 p.m.
