SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo junior men's cross country runner,
Shane Bracken earned the Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week honors for the first time in his career after taking second place at the Mountain Dew Invitational Saturday morning.
Bracken paced the Green and Gold at the annual Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida on Saturday in Gainesville. The Lions placed fourth out of the 31 teams while Bracken took second out of the 310 runners on the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:25.7, trailing just the University of North Florida's top runner by only two seconds. The Foxford, Ireland native was the lone Division II runner inside the top-four runners, beating out SSC foe Ryan Szklany (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) who finished in fifth.
Bracken and the rest of the Lions' cross country teams return to action on Sept. 27 at the Florida Runners race at Holloway Park in Lakeland.
