SAINT LEO, Fla. – After four years at the helm of Saint Leo Men's Basketball, Head Coach Vince Alexander has resigned his position in order to accept a coaching position at Rice University.

"I want to thank Vince for his leadership of our basketball program over the last four seasons. We wish Vince, Anita, Samantha, and Benjamin all the best in their next adventure," Saint Leo Vice-President and Director of Athletics Francis X. Reidy stated.

"They will all be missed by Saint Leo, and the basketball community they helped create during their time here," said Reidy.

Under his direction, Alexander guided the Lions to a 56-63 record with two trips to the Sunshine State Conference tournament, with hosting the quarterfinals in his first season, and one NCAA Regional trip. Alexander coached six student-athletes to All-SSC selections with one player earning National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Region honors twice in his tenure.

"I want to thank Mr. Reidy and Saint Leo University, and the entire athletics department for trusting me and bringing me on board for these past four years," said Vince Alexander. "I am humbled to have worked at such a great University and a premier Division II Institution. Although, this was somewhat unexpected to depart Saint Leo so soon, I have to trust the plan the Lord has put forth for me, returning to home and closer to my family."

Alexander added, "Saint Leo will always have a special place in my heart. Finally, I want to thank all of the players and staff with whom I've closely worked with over the last four years for their efforts and help making my transition to Saint Leo very smooth. I wish everyone here the very, very best, and God Bless."

A national search for a new Saint Leo head men's basketball coach will commence immediately.
