Haight Leads the Lions in Season Finale Doubleheader

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the third time in the last six games a Saint Leo baseball starting pitcher went out and threw a complete game shutout Saturday as redshirt senior Shane Haight concluded his career with one of his best performances. The fifth year man went 9.0 strong innings against Embry-Riddle in Saturday's doubleheader opener as he picked up his fourth victory of the season. ERAU went on to win the nightcap to pick up its lone win of the series.

Haight pitched his third career complete game and second career shutout. He scatterd six hits, struck out four and walked one. Three batters reached via hit by pitch as well. Haight joins redshirt junior Ryan Nolan and sophomore McCabe Sargent as the three Lions who have pitched complete game shutouts over the past two weekends.

The Lions conclude the 2019 season with a 25-25 overall record and a 14-16 mark in league action. The Eagles finished 29-20 overall and 18-12 in SSC action.

Senior Peyton Isaacson led the offensive attack in game one as the Lions took home a 7-0 victory. He ws 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, a run scored a double and a home run. Redshirt senior Derek Gibree was the only other Lion with more than one hit as he finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a double.

The Lions scored one in the second, two in the third off a two-run home run by Isaacson, two in the sixth and two in the ninth.

In game two the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the second and a 2-1 lead in the third before a five-run fourth by the Eagles broke the game open. Saint Leo scored three in the fifth to cut the deficit to one but three in the seventh and three in the eighth proved to be the end of the Saint Leo rally as the Eagles hung on for the 12-7 victory.

Gibree picked up his 200th career hit in the top of the fifth as he sent an RBI single up the middle. He would add one more hit in the ninth to finish his career with 201 hits.

Gibree, senior Jared Morello and redshirt freshman PJ Barry all finished with two hits in the game. Morello led the squad with three RBI while posting both a double and a triple in the game. Junior Jacob Reimold blasted his 11th home run of the season while senior Aaron Portee added a triple to his career totals.

Nolan took home the loss on the mound as he went 3.1 innings with a strikeout and a walk. He allowed eight hits and six earned runs. Three other pitchers saw action in the game with freshman Brady McGarry coming out as the only one to not give up a run. He pitched two thirds of an inning while striking out one and not allowing a hit.
