LAKELAND, Fla. – It took extra innings to decide a winner Wednesday night at Chris Belloto Field in Lakeland as the Lions scored on an error by the shortstop in the top of the ninth.
Emily Pilon dug into the box with one out and two runners on and hit a bouncing grounder right at the shortstop but the ball got between the legs allowing
Sarah Pauscher to come around and score.
Auria Mounts, who got the start, came in and closed the door on the Moccasins to seal the series-opening win for the Green and Gold. In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Mounts walked a batter before
Deanna Falciglia teamed up with
Kacie Kelly to catch Celia Higgins stealing to make it two outs. Mounts recorded the 1-2-3-inning with a groundout to herself to end the game.
