Bracken Sets Another Provisional Mark in Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's track team was in action Saturday at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Miami. Sophomore Shane Bracken once again led the Lions as he earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark in the 800m as he placed fourth overall. The Lions earned another top-five finish on the day as junior Shawn Bell took third in the 1,500m.
 
Bracken led a group of five Lions in the 800m. The sophomore stopped the clock in 1:51.36 to post the 12th best time in NCAA Division II this season in the event. Bell came across seven seconds later in 1:58.69 to take 11th in the event. Sophomore Hunter Chavis was the next Lion to cross the finish line as he took 15th followed by junior Blake Watson in 16th. Chavis clocked in at 2:02.06 while Watson turned in a time of 2:03.34. Freshman Mason Lamb was the final Lion to cross the line as he took 20th in 2:05.16.
 
Bell also led a group of five Lions in the 1,500m. The junior finished in third with a time of 4:03.03. Watson came in three spots back in sixth with a time of 4:05.65. Lamb picked up a top-15 finish as he crossed the line in 4:15.64 to earn 12th. Freshman Clement Goujon took 17th (4:20.16) while sophomore Brandon Cruz came in 24th (4:55.73).
 
Junior Tyler Pantley brought home the final top-15 finish of the day for the Lions in the final event of the evening. The Brooksville, Fla. native placed 15th in the 5,000m after completing the distance in 16:44.28.
 
Three Lions competed in the 400m as sophomore Beau Kary led the group with a 36th place finish. He rounded the track in 54.35. Freshman Tristan Karuzis was the next to finish as he took 38th in 56.73. Sophomore Kenneth Covey was the final Lion to cross the line as he took 39th in 1:00.26.
 
Sophomore Garrett Lischke was the lone Lion to compete in the 200m as he took 53rd after stopping the clock in 26.28. Sophomore Andrew Sands picked up a 58th place finish in the 100m as he was the lone Lion in the event. He sprinted down the track in 12 seconds even.
 
The Lions will close out the 2019 season next weekend at the South Florida Collegiate hosted by USF.
