SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team returned home Friday night to face the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic. The Lions were unable to get anything going offensively as the Sailfish pitching staff combined to throw a one-hit shutout versus the Lions in route to a 2-0 victory.

Saint Leo mustered just three baserunners all night as senior
Brett Coffel went 1-for-3 at the plate and tallied the Lions lone hit while redshirt freshman
Paul Coumoulos went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks to reach base twice.

Ruddy Gomez went 4.1 innings on the mound while scattering five hits and allowing one run. He took the loss despite fanning all nine Sailfish batters. He finished with nine strikeouts as he struck out each batter in the lineup once during his two rounds through the order. Junior
Joey Antonopoulos pitched 1.1 innings with two hits, a run and two walks allowed. Junior
Trevor Sanchez pitched the final 3.1 innings including entering the game with the bases loaded in the sixth and inducing a fly out to right field. He struck out three and walked one while allowing just one hit.

The Sailfish scored a solo run in the fifth and one in the sixth and that was all that was needed for pitchers Mitchell Carroll and Orsen Josephina. Carroll went 7.0 strong innings with four strikeouts, a walk and one hit given up. Josephina pitched the final 2.0 innings and picked up all six of his outs via strikeout. He walked one and did not allow a hit. Â

The Lions and Sailfish will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for the start of a doubleheader. Â Â
