SAINT LEO, Fla.- The No.3 Saint Leo women's tennis team defeated No.6 Nova Southeastern to hand the Sharks their first Sunshine State Conference and regular season loss on Sunday afternoon. The Lions topped the Sharks 4-3 to raise the Lions overall record to 11-2, 2-1 in the SSC and extend the Green and Gold win streak to four.
Nova Southeastern earned the double match point, winning Flights 1 and 2. Doubles Flight No.3
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Georgia Dobell earned a 6-4 victory.
In singles, thirty-seventh ranked
Kristyna Jurkova came back from being down 3-0 in the third set to clinch the the victory over Nova Southeastern. She won second singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, followed by
Nina Furmaniak in the third slot; 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.
Andrea Ivanovic recorded a win in fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3. In the six singles spot,
Nastasia Jedrychowski won her match 6-2, 6-1.
The Lions return to action at home on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m. against No.11 Academy of Art.
