Gallagher’s Double-Double Falls Short at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team fell 64-44 in the season finale on the road. The Lions closed out the 2018-19 season 10-18 overall, 5-15 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
 
Alani Gallagher earned a double-double putting up a team-high 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Gallagher's sophomore campaign showcased 7.9 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting a 41.1-percent from the field.
 
Asia Royster scored nine points and four rebounds to end her career as a Saint Leo Lion. Royster's senior campaign contributed 7.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game.
 
Barry (10-18, 7-13 SSC) was paced by Nichel Tampa (16), Ida Andersson (14) and Carly Sanders (13) who each scored double figures. Andersson also tallied a team-high eight rebounds for the Bucs.
 
How It Happened
  • Alani Gallagher's three-pointer lifted Saint Leo 8-5 over Barry. Royster extended the Lions lead to 11-5, also striking from outside the arch. Barry earned a seven-point run to regain the lead, 12-11. After each team recorded another bucket, the first quarter ended with the Bucs with the slight edge; 14-13.
  • Down 17-15, Saint Leo generated a five-point run off a Delaney Bernard three-pointer and two points from Casey Wortley at the line, which retook the lead for the Lions 20-19 with 3:58 remaining in the second quarter. The Bucs closed the second winning the battle for the lead, 26-25, after a good jumper and one.
  • Barry's 7-0 third quarter opening run handed the hosts the largest lead of the game yet with an eight-point gap. A Barry bucket inside the paint at 1:29 extended the Bucs lead to double digits, 40-29. Gallagher's layup closed the third stanza, 40-32.
  • Gallagher's made another layup followed by Gina Brierley three-pointer to slash the distance to five points, 44-39 with 7:18 left on the clock. Barry's offense kicked into gear outscoring Saint Leo 11-2 to regain an 11-point advantage. The Bucs didn't let up going on a 9-0 run for a 22-point lead, the largest of the game at 64-42. Montia Moon's jumper was the last toss to move the scoreboard for a 64-44 decision.
