SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo softball topped Caldwell 5-1, 5-0 in doubleheader action Wednesday afternoon at University Softball Stadium. The two wins extend the Lions' win streak over the Cougars to 10 games under the direction of head coach
Erin Kinberger.

Kendyl Crean paced the Green and Gold in two games played going 3-for-6 from the plate with one run scored, one double and two RBI.
Kacie Kelly led the RBI charge with three as
Shyanne DuBois and
Kayleice Hooks tied with Crean for second with two apiece.
Ciara McCoy started game two and made the most of her appearance going 1-for-1 from the plate with two walks drawn to go a perfect 1.000/1.000/1.000 for her slash line. Between the two games, the Lions scattered 14 hits with eight different Lions making contact with the ball. Saint Leo outscored Caldwell 10-1 with seven different players crossing the plate.
Rachel Bean and
Sara Neuman got the nods for the pitching staff as they both earned wins in the circle with Bean tossing the complete game in game one as Neuman tossed the complete game shutout in game two. Bean gave up one run on five hits as she fanned five batters as Neuman gave up just one hit in her seven innings and had two strikeouts.
Game 1 – Saint Leo 5, Caldwell 1
Saint Leo jumped all over Caldwell with two runs in the bottom of the first on a one-out RBI double from
Kendyl Crean to right field. The Cougars came back and got one right back in the top of the second on errant catch that allowed the runner to turn the corner from third.
The Lions added three more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead.
Kayleice Hooks singled up the middle on a 1-1 count to drive in
Sarah Pauscher and
Kendyl Crean. Hooks would then come in to score on a
Kacie Kelly double to left center on the full count, 3-2.
Bean and the Lions' defense would hold the Cougars to no runs in the top of the seventh to go on for the 5-1 win as Bean got the final batter to ground out to
Ashley Morris.
Game 2 – Saint Leo 5, Caldwell 0
Saint Leo would threaten in the bottom of the first but would not be able to bring anyone across the plate until the third inning when
Ciara McCoy came around to score on a
Kacie Kelly single through the left side. After a quick 1-2-3 five pitch top of the fourth inning by
Sara Neuman, Saint Leo got right back to it adding four in the bottom half.
With two outs, the Lions saw
Brigette Soza, who pinch ran for
Emily Pilon who walked, McCoy,
Ashley Morris and Kelly all come across to score.
Neuman would allow just one runner to reach base over the final three innings as she worked 1-2-3 innings in the sixth and seventh to close out the game.

Saint Leo will return to conference play as the Green and Gold travel to Nova Southeastern for a Saturday-Sunday three-game series with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. on March 16.
