SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 25 Saint Leo women's lacrosse team broke out an 11-goal run in the second half to clinch the program's eight-straight win in a 21-11 decision over the Young Harris Mountain Lions. The regional game moved Young Harris' record to 3-3 while the Lions stayed perfect at 8-0.
"
Kaci Archer kept us alive in the first half," commented head coach
Caitlin Hansen. "We started to find our rhythm in the second half and she was still contributing then too. She even won draws for us too, so, getting a complete game from a freshman is awesome.
Young Harris opened the second half with an equalizing goal, 8-8.
Leslie Ferguson and
Kaylah Walstad took turns scoring and assisting each other to hand the lead back to the Green and Gold. Young Harris struck again for a one-goal game, 10-9, with 22:55 remaining. The Lions offense broke out an 11-goal run generating a 21-9 gap from the visiting Mountain Lions.
"
Erin Davis came in and made some good saves for us in the cage," continued Hansen. "
Mackenzie Cotter had another great day on the back line, handling a lot of loose ground balls."
"Overall, I'm happy with the win. I'm also looking forward to a little bit of time to regroup and recharge for three more non-conference games before opening play in the Sunshine State Conference," concluded Hansen.
