SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team fell 55-49 to Lynn on Wednesday in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. After a slow first quarter for the Lions,
Casey Wortley led the comeback attempt but efforts fell short down the Line against the Fighting Knights.

Saint Leo (9-13, 7-7 SSC) was paced by Wortley's 16 points, scoring 14 of the 16 points in the third quarter jolt.
Gina Brierley joined Wortley in double-digit scoring with 14. Saint Leo was able to score 19 points off turnovers but was out-rebounded by the visitors 38-28. Brierley earned a team-high six rebounds for the Green and Gold.

Lynn (13-7, 7-7 SSC) also had two in double figures, led by Christina Potts with 21 points and Loie Webb with 10. Janay Williams earned a game-high eight rebounds.

How It Happened
- Saint Leo was held to four points in the first quarter while the Fighting Knights ran away with a 10-point lead. The Lions saw Alani Gallagher hit two from the line and Brierley sink a jumper for the 14-4 score after one.Â
- Olivia Lough's three-pointer at 8:16 slimmed the Fighting Knights lead to seven. Lough cut the distance to seven points again at 6:35 while Brierley's jumper at 4:52 also brought the game within seven, 21-14 at 4:52. Lynn's bucket from downtown along with a good toss from the line put the Lions back down by double-digits, 25-14.
- In the third quarter, Saint Leo scored eight points off Lynn's turnovers on its way to outscoring the Fighting Knights, 19-11. Wortley went 5-for-7 from the floor in third alone, sinking both three-pointers in the big momentum swing.
- Saint Leo earned an 8-0 run to open the third, cutting the gap to three points, 25-22. One minute later, Wortley hit another three-pointer to tie the game, 27-27 at 4:06. Brierley snatched the defensive rebound and moved the ball up the court to Gallagher who made the layup for the lead change, 29-27. Lynn retook the lead rights in the last 30 seconds off a deep three-pointer to close the tight third quarter, 36-33.
- Lynn extended the gap in the opening minute of the fourth going on a 4-0 run, 40-33. Brierley's seven points from work on the line, a three-pointer, and jumper reinstated a one-possession game. Asia Royster's jumper at 1:33 cut Lynn's lead to a single point, 47-46. In the following seconds, Lynn would put together a six-point run which proved too much for the Saint Leo comeback efforts. The Fighting Knights added two points from the charity stripe for the 49-55 final.

Saint Leo returns to the road traveling to Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Last meeting in December, the Saint Leo women's basketball team's second-half surge forced eight lead changes and an overtime period to decide the tilt against the Nova Southeastern Sharks. Despite overcoming a 15-point deficit, Saint Leo fell 87-85 in overtime in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
