SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 23 Saint Leo baseball team picked up its first two home wins of the season Sunday afternoon as the Lions swept a twinbill against the visiting Chargers of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Redshirt junior pitcher Ryan Nolan stole the show in the opening game going 8.0 innings on the mound while allowing just two hits and striking out five. Senior Jared Morello showcased his offensive skills all day but took over in game two going 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, a double and a triple while scoring one run.
 
The Lions took game one 4-0 behind the arm of Nolan and then powered their way to victory in the nightcap 9-5.
 
Morello led the Lion offense finishing the day 5-of-7 at the plate with a double, a triple, a run scored and four RBI. He was also 2-for-3 in stolen bases and drew a walk. Fellow senior Peyton Isaacson finished with three hits over the two games while three others each had a pair of base knocks.
 
Freshman Mike Wyman picked up his first hit of his young career as he blasted a two-run home run over the fence in the fourth inning of game number one. The homer was part of a three-run inning that helped secure the 4-0 victory for the Lions. The freshman finished with two hits on the day and three RBI.
 
Junior Jacob Reimold drove in two runs while going 2-for-5 at the dish and scored two runs.
 
Nolan led the pitching staff with 8.0 innings of work while striking out five and walking two. He allowed his fist hit in the sixth inning of the game. Junior Trevor Smisek made his second and third appearances of the season on Sunday as he pitched the final inning of the 4-0 game one victory and then came in for 1.1 innings in game two. He finished with two strikeouts and a walk while allowing just three hits.
 
Junior Kaleb Huxford picked up the start in game two and pitched 4.2 innings while striking out four and walking three. He took home the victory in the seven inning affair. Saint Leo closer Trevor Sanchez pitched the final inning of game two in a non-save situation. He allowed two hits while striking out one and walking another.
 
The Lions will now turn their attention to Lee University who will be visiting the Saint Leo campus next Friday and Saturday for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, February 8 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
