Softball hosts Rollins in their home opener, baseball opens up conference play, and men's lacrosse welcomes in #2 Adelphi

Baseball Notes
  • No. 23 Saint Leo baseball opens up Sunshine State Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Lynn. 
  • The Lions swept the Fighting Knights last season in Boca Raton including winning the opening game 10-6 in 10 innings.   
  • The last Lynn victory in the series came in 2017 as the 20th-ranked Fighting Knights took two-of-three from the Lions.
  • Senior Jared Morello continues to lead the offensive threat for the Lions with a .463 batting average that includes a team-high three doubles, a triple and one home run. He has driven in 10 runs and drawn 12 walks.
  • Fellow senior Peyton Isaacson leads in the power department with four home runs and a team-high 13 RBI.
  • On the pitching side, the Lions have seen five different pitchers start games this season with three of those sitting on 1-0 records. Redshirt junior Ryan Nolan and junior Joey Antonopoulos have seen the most extensive action with 15.2 innings pitched each over three starts.
  • Lynn is off to a 7-3 start but is coming off its worst loss of the year so far, a 17-0 defeat at St. Thomas (Fla.).
  • Senior Alec Ojeda leads the Fighting Knights offensively with a .405 batting average that includes six doubles, two triples and two home runs. Senior Shayne Fontana has driven in a team-best 13 runs and also holds the team lead with four home runs.
  • The Fighting Knights have sent four pitchers to the mound to start games this season. Junior Alec Hernandez has not started and has pitched only 5.1 innings but leads the team with a 2-0 record.
  • Junior Nicholis Prather has seen the most action on the mound at 13.0 innings pitched and holds a 1-1 record with a 5.54 ERA.

Softball Notes
  • Saint Leo opens the home portion of the schedule after knocking off then-no. 18 Palm Beach Atlantic in the SSC season opener 2-1 in the series. The Lions took game one 6-3 before taking game two of the series 5-1. The Sailfish snagged the final game of the series 2-0 Saturday.
  • Kacie Kelly was named the SSC Player of the Week after going 7-for-11 from the plate with a slash line of .636/.667/.909. Kelly knocked around the ball for six singles and one double in the three game series.
  • On the year, Kelly takes over as the team leader in batting average with a .404 clip ahead of Shyanne DuBois at .395. DuBois edges Kelly in doubles 8-6 where she also holds the team lead in RBI at 11.
  • Rollins is coming in red-hot with a 7-1 record, 2-1 in the SSC after a 2-1 series win over Barry to open the year. The Tars took game one 6-0 before a game two 5-2 score. The Bucs got game three, 6-0.
  • On the year, Jordan Davis leads the team with a .560 average with 14 hits on the season.

Men's Tennis Notes
 
  • No. 6 Saint Leo is coming off a 5-2 victory against Florida Southern.
  • The Lions swept the doubles competition for the first time this season.
  • In singles action, Bruno Faletto, Ghali Mensour, Aurel Ciocanu, and David Perez registered wins against the Mocs.
  • Faletto and Perez improved their singles record to 4-1 on the season.
  • Flagler is on a win streak defeating No. 18 Embry Riddle 4-2 in their last match.

Men's Lacrosse Notes
  • The No. 14 Saint Leo Lions, ranked ninth at the time, dropped an 18-7 decision to Limestone, who was ranked six, in a neutral site game on Sunday in Savannah, Ga.
  • Charlie Kurtenbach, Reece Hrycan, and Philip Buque each put up two points. Kurtenbach and Hrycan each took turns scoring a pair of goals in the first. Buque handed in a goal and an assist.
  • Thomas Tatarian earned the start in goal. Tatarian earned 17 saves in his first appearance of 2019.
  • Kurtenbach's six-point work week against Limestone and Notre Dame De Namur, picked up a second USILA Division II Team of the Week honor. The senior attacker placed .538 percent of his shots on target while .385 percent of his takes found the back of the net.
  • No. 2 Adelphi opened 2019 defeating Assumption 15-8 on Saturday.
  • Ian Kirby tallied four goals, three in the first half, and three assists for a game-high seven points. Nicolas Racalbuto netted five goals in the opener.
  • In goal, Brendan McDougal earned nine stops for the win. Kevin Rice earned four saves in his fourth quarter appearance.
  • Saturday marks the first meeting between the two opponents since February 2009. A decade ago, No. 6 Adelphi topped No. 9 Saint Leo 8-4, for an all-time series against record of 0-1.
