CLEARWATER, Fla. - No. 5 Saint Leo closed out the NFCA D2 Leadoff Classic Sunday morning at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in a meeting with No. 2 Southern Arkansas where the Muleriders overpowered the Lions 13-1 in five innings.
Saint Leo (5-6) saw one hit in the contest in a leadoff ground rule double by
Kacie Kelly.
Ashley Morris would lay down a bunt and reach safely on a fielder's choice before Kelly came in to score on
Shyanne DuBois' groundout to short stop. The Lions stranded two runners in the bottom of the first, trailing 2-1.
After a scoreless frame in the second, the Muleriders (6-2) added seven runs in the third before one in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Auria Mounts got the nod for the Lions, where all four pitchers saw action in the contest.
Kendyl Crean went 2-for-2 in stolen bases after reaching base safely in her two plate appearances.
Kacie Kelly and
Ashley Morris each earned one stolen base in the game.
