Lions Overwhelm Warriors in Day One of Hampton Inn Classic

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions recorded a confident, 94-52, win over the Southern Wesleyan Warriors Friday night in game two of the Hampton Inn (Wesley Chapel) Classic held in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Four Lions scored double-digits while Olivia Lough snagged a game-high seven rebounds. The victory lifted Saint Leo's season record to 5-6 while Southern Wesleyan's mark moved to 1-9.

The Green and Gold whipped out a 10-point run in the second quarter on their way to a 48-25 halftime advantage. Saint Leo held Southern Wesleyan to a third-quarter high of 15 points while the Lions registered at least 20 points a period.

"We have been emphasizing sharing the basketball," explained head coach Anthony Crocitto. "I'm very happy with the 25 assists today. By sharing the ball, we let a lot of people score the ball. We have 12 good basketball players on our active bench and it was nice to see them all have a chance to contribute."

Casey O'Shaughnessy posted a perfect game with a team-high 13 points going 5-for-5 from the floor included a pair of three-pointers while converting her lone opportunity at the free throw line. The freshman added two assists to her stainless performance.

Gina Brierley (12), Alex Button (11), and Alani Gallagher (10) joined O'Shaughnessy in putting up double-figure points on the board. Amanda Ulrich had a solid night scoring seven points, grabbing six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.

Crocitto shared what the Lions need to do tomorrow to close out the home tournament on top saying, "tomorrow we have to defend the three and continue to share the ball. Robert Wesleyan can certainly score the basketball; they are quick and athletic. We need to stay together and get this one before Christmas."

Beyond the Boxscore
  • Amanda Ulrich tallied a career-high eight assists as the Lions' starting point guard.
  • Casey O'Shaughnessy was held scoreless in the previous three games. The freshman shooter broke the ice pacing the Lions over the Warriors with a perfect offensive game.
