Lions Early Lead Not Enough Against Mocs’ Late Offensive Burst

LAKELAND, Fla. – Elias Niesigk wasted no time getting on the board in Lakeland, Fla. A lightning delay slowed down the Saint Leo Lions' momentum in the SEU Soccer Complex. The Florida Southern Moccasins' capitalized on the break, earning a 2-1 comeback win in the last 13 minutes of action. The road contest marked the end of the 2019 Saint Leo Lions season, earning a 7-10 record, going 3-7 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) under the direction of first-year head coach Brett Parker.

Niesigk struck at the sixth minute mark, assisted by Federico Toschi. The pair has been a dynamic duo for the Green and Gold offense. Niesigk closed his final collegiate season with 14 points, scoring four goals and six assists. Toschi wrapped up his junior campaign, his first appearance as a Lion, with 13 points, tallying six goals and three assists.

Florida Southern (5-5-5, 2-3-4 SSC) topped Saint Leo on the shot chart, 16-6, but it wasn't until the 77th when the hosts matched the Lions' goal. Four minutes later, Florida Southern punched their ticket to the conference postseason as James Meehan scored both goals for the Mocs' in the comeback.

Between the pipes, Christian Evans earned four saves to wrap up his senior campaign.
