Lions Ledger: Soccer Closes Out Regular Season

  • Saint Leo saw Nina Mueller break out two goals against Florida Southern on Saturday. The SSC win sits the Lions eighth among the league's standings. The victory paired perfectly with the team's senior night, celebrating the five Green and Gold seniors; Julia Ortiz, Rebecca Anderson, Rebecca Niblett, Emily Baker, and Adriana Tirado.
  • Carolina Solis-Deleon paces the Lions offense with 10 points from five goals. She is followed by Anderson with six points from two goals and a pair of assists. In the net, Ortiz has earned 65 stops alongside a 1.39 goals against average.
  • Embry-Riddle currently sits fourth in the SSC standings after a split week facing Florida Southern (W, 2-0) and Nova Southeastern (L, 2-0).
  • Marie Myhrvold Seim has racked up 17 points for the Eagles scoring six goals and five assists. She is supported by Rita Okoro with 12 points from six goals and Julia Olsson with 10 points from four goals and a pair of assists. Dana Ruchti has protected the Eagles' net all season with 47 saves with a 1.06 goals against average.
  • Last meeting, Embry-Riddle edged Saint Leo 2-1 in Daytona Beach, Fla. On the road, Solis-Deleon netted the Lions lone goal in the 70th minute.
  • Saint Leo hits the road for its final midweek contest of the season as the Lions travel to St. Petersburg to avenge an earlier loss to the Tritons of Eckerd College.
  • The Tritons snapped a five-match winning streak by the Lions in the all-time series earlier this season with a 3-1 victory inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
  • The Lions are currently riding a two-match losing streak, tying their season long. Both losses came in five as Saint Leo is now 0-6 in five-set matches this season.
  • Senior Anilise Fitzi still leads the squad in total kills this season at 235 but junior Ashley Quero leads in kills per set at 2.75. Fellow junior Michelle Cuervo is second on the team in kills per set at 2.44 just edging out Fitzi who sits at 2.42. Fitzi has been dominant at the net with a team-best 105 blocks, 35 more than her next closest teammate.
  • Eckerd has dropped two of its last three matches including a five-set loss versus Tampa, a 3-0 setback at Embry-Riddle and a 3-0 sweep of Florida Tech. Asya Harris leads the Tritons with 300 total kills, 3.30 per set. Rachel Wisian and Sarah Johnshoy patrol the net with 84 and 73 blocks, respectively.
  • Saint Leo closes out the regular season at Florida Southern following their home finale on Saturday. The weekend's senior day honored nine Lions; Wessel Berenschot, Christian Evans, Kevoy Bailey, Mathis Hardy, Dion Dozzell, Elias Niesigk, Pietro Vagnone, Roberto Biendicho, and Guillaume Campos.
  • The Green and Gold returned to its winning ways, defeating the University of Mary 2-0 with goals by Mathis Hardy and Federico Toschi.

  • Florida Southern is coming off a 3-1 loss to Embry-Riddle on Wednesday. The Mocs sit seventh in the SSC standings with Saint Leo right behind in eighth.
  • James Meehan has earned eight points from three goals and two assists supported by Edu Capote with seven points, scoring three goals and an assist. Philip Faderl has earned 10 starts in the net for the Mocs. Faderl enters the game with a 1.43 goals against average paired with 41 saves.
  • Last meeting on September 22, 2018, the Mocs downed the Lions 3-1.
