SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team shelled out an 80-54 win over Puerto Rico Mayaguez on Wednesday in the Lions' season home-opener. The confident non-conference victory moved the Green and Gold's season record to 2-3 while the visiting Janes record lowered to 0-3.
"It was nice to see a lot of players play and see a lot of players succeed," said head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "But what I was most impressed with was our top-seven came to play defense. We were committed to defense this week and we executed. Most importantly, today we shared the ball and got 21 assists."
Powerhouse trio
Abby Zeitsiff (14),
Alex Button (12), and
Amanda Ulrich (12) each sunk double-digits in the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week,
Alani Gallagher, took care of business off the window with 10 rebounds.
"We are still young coming off the bench. After a hostile road trip we grew up. I am proud of the program today.," concluded Crocitto.
