SAINT LEO, Fla. – Freshman
Nina Mueller broke out a career-best night on the Saint Leo (6-9-1, 3-6 SSC) women's soccer senior day to defeat the Florida Southern Moccasins (4-8-2, 1-6-2 SSC), 2-0 on Saturday. Mueller's pair of goals snapped the team's five-game scoring drought to put a halt to a six-game skid. The Sunshine State Conference decision placed the Green and Gold back in the series win column against the Mocs, recording the first win over Florida Southern since October 22, 2016.
Mueller sliced and diced the Mocs' backline to net her first collegiate goal in the 31
st minute. After the halftime break, Florida Southern answered back with a cross in the box and conversion at the 59
th minute mark.
Both teams pressed tallying 15 goals by the Lions, 10 on frame and dangerous, alongside the Mocs' 10 shots with three on target. The foes were handed seven corner kick opportunities but
Julia Ortiz and the Green and Gold defense rose to the challenge.
Tied at 1-1 with 24 minutes left in regulation, Mueller kept the smiles coming.
Lindsay Blum ran to the right corner sent a perfect ball into the box for Mueller's go-ahead goal.
Before the kickoff, Saint Leo honored its' five seniors;
Julia Ortiz,
Rebecca Anderson,
Rebecca Niblett,
Emily Baker, and
Adriana Tirado. The senior class will play on the Saint Leo Soccer Field one more time on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. against the Embry-Riddle Eagles.
